At numerous times over the past couple of years I have had a 'I want to go to Maison Objet' conversation with a couple of different friends. Maison Objet is a huge trade show in Paris, showcasing interiors and design products from all over the world, and somehow it all felt a little daunting so I never quite got there. Then at the end of last year my friend Alys & I gave ourselves a talking to and decided to just bloody well go. So we did!Read More
Over the years it has been a real joy to have found some wonderful examples of garden furniture from the 1960's & 1970's. This vintage floral swing seat was probably the most exciting find...though putting it together alone, without instructions on a hot summer day was not a great experience!Read More
Before Christmas we started working on a vintage Parker Knoll suite for a very lovely local customer, the sofa is shown above in all its gorgeous new glory. The suite consists of a sofa & two chairs which were in a sad brown velour cover with a grim opaque stain to the legs (already removed in the image below), and a fairly saggy support structure.
We looked at lots of fabrics and eventually the customer chose heather & ginger coloured pure wool fabrics from an English Mill. Then our upholsterer got to work, sorting the support and making them beautiful.
Based on our perky table it was made to the customer's chosen size, to be used as a dining table with a great green Formica top. We made a subtle change to the leg design to strengthen the structure & it turned out very well indeed. Please get in touch if you would like more info on pricing for a similar piece.
The original soggy seat cushion was replaced and we also found a stool that matched really well to ensure her new place of relaxation was complete.
Both pieces were professionally reupholstered and are now set to be enjoyed for a good few years to come.
This sofa has been given a new home by one of our loveliest customers who came to our very first house sale and has supported WM ever since. It's amazing what a difference a great fabric and some good old fashioned craftmanship can do, it certainly didn't always look this good... The sofa was a perfect fit for the space and the new fabric was a very classy choice as it let the shape of the sofa shine AND it copes really well with cat hairs, we love a happy ending!
(We have other ugly ducklings ready and waiting to be transformed into swans, please get in touch for more info.)
What usually happens is a visit to the studio to see an item from the website. This turns out to be not quite right, but then amongst the higgle and piggle of our studio they spot something that is ready and waiting to be transformed. And together with our collection of fabrics we try a few things out, stand & stare & scratch our chins...then turn it into something lovely.
Amongst our current higgledy-piggledy pile we have sofas, armchairs, footstools, and are happy to send pics of them in their current state if you would like a little 'made-to-order' loveliness for your own...please just ping us an email.
