I was very lucky recently to be able to tag along with my art-teacher-husband to a private view at Pallant House Art Gallery of a small exhibition which is the result of a great project called 'International Sketchbooks'. I wasn't very aware of what the exhibition was about before going, but it was just such a rare delight. The work on show was from children in Kerala, India and Hampshire who had created and exchanged small homemade sketchbooks about their lives. I am a sucker for anything teeny and handmade, and the books had been put together with real thought from the children giving the reader a huge insight into the contrast of growing up in such different countries.
The image above shows some of the heavier issues that the Indian children faced, and the UK children's content did tend to be lighter...sweets, TV and fashion featured heavily! It was just so lovely though to be able to browse these children's lives put together in such a creative way. If you are local to Chichester then it's definitely worth a visit - it's on until the 25th March.
